A Fresh Look for Upper Albany: Locals Unite for Streetscape Makeover

Upper Albany avenue was busier than usual on April 10 2026. Community members were joined by volunteers from the University of Hartford's Helping Hawks program to clean and beautify the street ahead of a busy summer season. The theme of this event was Community in Action: Beautification. Walkability. Small Business Support. The Community Volunteer Day initiative was organized by Upper Albany Main Street, a non-profit organization that has actively been involved in the revitalizing the avenue and surrounding areas by reviving and empowering small businesses on this street. This non-profit works towards enhancing the quality of life and wellbeing of the residents by improving community spaces, providing educational programs to entrepreneurs, and restoring economic stability in this area.
The organization received overwhelming support from its local partners such as Clay Arsenal CDC, KNOX, Inc., and the Upper Albany Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ), in making the Upper Albany Volunteer Day a major success.
